The Perfect Church Snack

So as a parent going anywhere with your kids is always an adventure. Attempting to guess what you need to bring is a complex logistics problem with variables including spare clothes, diapers, toys, and snacks. All while trying to take the volume of your diaper bag into account. I don't know how it is for all parents but I know for us church is usually the hardest place to get the formula consistently right. I think a large part of the problem for us is that our Sunday morning service bridges the gap between morning nap and lunch. Meaning the boys don't get a nap and everyone is eating a late lunch. So for us, the most important item in the church diaper bag is the snack baggies.

This morning, as Simon was feeding me snacks out of his bag (because he is a good sharer and daddy likes snacks too) I had to wonder, is it sacrilegious to eat during church? You never really see people eating during church other than communion (as if that is enough to count as eating). I see lots of people bring in coffee but I have never seen anyone with a donut. I felt like this was one of those topics that are not directly addressed anywhere in the bible. The thought stuck with me through the rest of the service. On the drive home I asked Erin her thoughts on the subject and I could not have asked for a better response. "Well Jesus fed people while he taught on 2 different occasions in the bible, so it couldn't be that bad," she said.

She then went on to further point out that on both occasions Jesus fed people bread and fish. Now our church snack bags come in a variety of mixtures but the two things that are always present are cheerios and goldfish. Goldfish is essentially fish-shaped bread. What could possibly be a better church snack than that? (I don't have anything sarcastic to say about cheerios, Sebastian just really likes them.)

I hope you weren't expecting anything more serious out a post with a title like that. If you were I am sorry and hope you give me another chance some other time. I hope this message has found you in good health and of a sound mind. Until next week, I am just another confused father wondering...

What is your go-to snack?
